Following bigfoot's tracks in the snow
Walking through snowy woods, shod with snowshoes: even in the wintertime Zell am See-Kaprun is a dream destination for hiking friends. A wide-spread network of paths will take you to the remotest places in the region. Cafés and mountain huts pamper their guests alongside the various routes. And on the shores of frozen-over Lake Zell you will be stomping through the glorious snow as you watch the skaters and ice dancers.
Sturdy footwear, winter-proof clothing, and a thermos full of hot tea are a must if you want to venture out on a tour through the sea of glittering powder snow. For those who do not want to be just by themselves when discovering the mountain world, there is the possibility of signing up for guided snowshoe and winter hiking tours. If you choose one of the Schmittenhöhe routes, you will find yourself going up into high and lofty places and enjoy a marvellous view.
The hiking trails through Kaprun are simply ideal for a leisurely walk in the afternoon. Whether you want to go for a short march or decide on a long winter expedition - the plateau of the 'Glocknermassiv' is only a few thousand metres away. Shorter routes are superbly suited for families or people who are less fit, as far as their physical condition is concerned. Trails to Kaprun Castle lead through the moorlands and along the banks of Salzach river.
